Help! Scared of the Gym

I am! Scared to death! and yet, I've just joined my local fitness first (gasp)

Anyone got some tips on how to deal with the fear of the gym, its more the other people and I'm paranoid people are watching me...yes the world doesnt revolve around me but but but!!! I'm more afraid of falling off the machines, like the treadmill...and not being able to do the work out set and looking like a idiot, plus I'm a 15 stone, dress size 16 now and everyone else is like sticks!

Help!!!

Hi Kelsie, don't worry other people in the gym have the same fears as you, you certainly won't be the only one! Stick with it, if the workout feels too much ask for help from the gym staff. Most people are so concerned with their own workout they won't be watching you despite how it seems. Keep at it. Anna

Are you still going to the gym? Good on yer. It gets easier and you will make like-minded friends. I love going to the gym. Go at least 5 times a week. I've made friends there now. Good luck.

Hi I had this problem but just think you see people on Trains and Buses reading newspapers give a glance and just get on with your own life . The same can be said of people useing mobile phones etc., People on the whole just get on with their own life and unless you wear a bright gory top or yukky bottoms nobody will notice you at first . Oh yes I have fallen off the tread mill slipped in the changing room - called myself an idiot and kept going .and lets face it if somebody does see you fall they will either be sympathetic or you will have given them a good laugh.Also look around they arn't all skinnies or posers it just seems it at first.
