I have made good gains using a cheap and cheerful rowing machine and my home weights, but decided to change my cardio a bit as i can go for 75 minutes on the rowing machine doing 5 minute HIIT (i.e 1 minute sprint, 4 minutes steady minimum 35 strokes per minute) withought any trouble other then my poor knees.
I went for a swim today, and did about 80 minutes continuous breast stroke with occasional freestyle sprints to shake things up a bit.
The pool is a standard 25m pool and because its public, and kids tend to use it too, only has one lane, which doesnt make much difference and swimming lane etiquette means nothing to most people.
What i was hoping to do once i have gotten back into swimming, was do HIIT training. I imagine that something along the lines of 4 lengths steady breast stroke 2 lengths freestyle sprint, would be ok, but Im not really sure.
also i'm wondering if 80 minutes is going a bit too far as i am still trying to build muscle mass and dont want to hamper those efforts too much.
Any advice greatly appreciated
